We’re changing our name

SynthaSite will soon be Yola

We’re excited to let you know our new name is going to be Yola. It’s easy to remember and pretty fun to say. It comes from the Hindi word “jhola,” which means hatch – and hatching big ideas is exactly what you do at Yola.

A new name for the same company

Our name, homepage and URL will be new, but everything else about SynthaSite stays the same. We’re still the same company with the same team. You’ll find all the sites you built and their web addresses are also staying the same. If you have questions about this change, please go to these FAQ’s. https://www.yola.com/about-us/yola-rebranding-faqs

Here’s a homepage preview

The change is coming in a few short days, but here’s a sneak peek. After the site changes to Yola.com, you still log in just like you did at Synthasite.com. In the meantime, you may want to create a new bookmark for www.yola.com.

We hope to see you very soon, at Yola.com

  3. Pity to have a name change now. We just got used to Synthasite. “Yola” is too close to “Yahoo” as well, never mind the Hindi connotation, which I think will pretty much put off certain people. Better to keep it quite I would say IMHO.

  5. The change in every thing is good but i think the name synthasite was good instead of Yola because that was easy to remember. But what can we do if you have decided to change it.I want to ask you a question that will the name of users site also change i.e it will be shaikhdara.yola.com instead of shaikhdara.synthasite.com or not it will be very bad if it changed because it will be difficult for free users to change thier address.

  6. A rebranding is always good, and im sure youve done your research and the name “yola” is popular.

But personanly i think synthasite sums up the website perfectly, it is the perfect name, Syntha – site, it couldnt be any clearer.

Yola sounds too hippy new rave 😛

  9. That is Evolution of business.
    Well done.
Does not matter if it is synthasite or Yola, We got it for FREE……so Thanks.
One thing I would like to see though is more Control and ease on how we make webiste.

    Good luck.

  10. Very very bad idea. Synthasite was perfect, non one had difficulty remembering it and Yola conjures of images of Yogi the bear, yoddeling, and numerous other lame associations. That someone felt compelled to change the name, let alone to this lame name, makes me very concerned about the leadership of this company and it’s future.

  11. Synth = “combine so as to form a more complex product”, ‘a Site’ (speaks for itself) is a first class product name which, as the advert says “does exactly what it says on the tin”. But, if this change was not forced upon you for legal or technical reasons, then I reckon you’ve gone and ‘Fixed It When It Ain’t Broke’. That gurgling sound you can hear is the Baby going out with the Bathwater!

BUT … whatever you decide to call it and for whatever reason (nomatter how misguided) there are two things for which I’m hugely grateful: 1. It’s still a cracking good service which I recommend to everyone and 2. Thank God you haven’t forced us to change the URL of our sites. The pain and grief of contacting all of the operators with whom I have reciprocal listings would have been too much to bear and would likely have ruined my B&B business for this summer season.

  12. I am sorry to hear the news of the name change. I have always liked the name Synthasite. It has a tech sound to it were as the Yola is too close to Yahoo and it sounds like it is aimed toward the preschool set. It sounds like a dummy down. I am sorry that you are changing your name. I feel like it takes away from a more professional sounding address. Synthasite is a wonderful service and I appreciate it all that it offers. I would hope that Synthasite would reconsider this name change.

  13. SynthaSite is a service that I always recommend to my friends and associates but they always ask me to spell it and then they still get it wrong. I liked the name SynthaSite but Yola is so much easier, I think it is going to do well!

  14. honestly, i like the word “synthasite”. It was really high sounding. Those who heard it from me amazed of its name. However, YOLA is a shorter word and much more easier to type that “SYNTHASITE”.

Nevertheless, I welcome the changes and hoping that it is coupled with a more advanced features like “control” in the making of our website. We thank you even more better for its free use.

To me “YOLA” or “SYNTHASITE” is ok. What matter most is the you, the people behind people out there supporting its website oeprations unlike others. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!

  15. BAD IDEA! You loose people when you change the name. Besides, how does the name change ADD to business? NO way, NO how…THIS IS JUST PEOPLE TRYING TO JUSTIFY THEIR EXISTANCE

  16. I think the name change isn’t going to have any negative impact and if someone thought it would make things better, so be it.

To be quite frank, I like the service you offer, but am disappointed in web site load times. Sometimes during the day the site loads very fast and other times the load time is extremely slow. I have my resume web site and a small business web site I just completed yesterday because I am a recent layoff statistic, and would appreciate effort in increasing the performance of my web sites. More servers ? Higher speed connectivity ? Whatever it takes. I have cloned websites at Google Sites and they load extremely fast consistently, so I have to believe the performance is not related to my website content.

No disrespect, I understand the service is free, just a request.

Keep up the great work and Yola is cool with me. 🙂

  17. For all doubters, and also for all supporters of the name change:

I’m not a computer expert, im a professional musician and BECAME a specialist in the field of eMarketing after 9-11… one of the biggest and also most successful firms in the industry – such that Google and InfoSpace came to our company to see why it was so damn slammin’.

SynthaSite’s name change to shorter URL …is a fantastic move, because

    1. Yola is short.
(FREE eMARKETING ADVICE FROM ME TO ALL)
thats one instant and VERY crucial way you can increase your traffic, I’ve helped many many small businesses, and Fortune 500 companies increase their sales with my time earned knowledge.
    So.
    Its a good change because:

    a) people dont have time to type out long URLs

    b) tyops occur…LOL just like right now & i SWEAR it was an honest mistake.
Even on short words, typos slow or cause u to lose potential customers to another site with an easier, shorter, faster URL to type in– even if their product or service isnt as good as yours, they win the customer faster that you via simple – time efficiency.

    c) the name has meaning, just like the original site, both are cool.
those who are being publicly hateful of the cultural association are simply beng held back by ..whatevr. Easily could be Yola’s competition posting negative blogs.

    Love Eachother,
    Avoid Greed,
thats whats ruining the World Economy.
The meek, and brave + the Honest will win in the end.

Thanks Yola, and thank even all the doubters
theres no hate coming from this post, just sharing info
so you can ALL rest assured and go confidently into your businesses.
( & to the ultra doubters) you only make the believers’ dreams worth proving.

  18. The “Hatching” idea is nice…name..not so much…sorry…do love the concept though…as far as something “Hindi” turning people away…well…if you are that odd that the name of a site should cause you not to use it (as some have posted)…I wouldn’t want you using my services anyway…good luck with the change…still don’t like the name…but…love the hatching

  19. Hi,great idea but for me, synthasite sounds better and nicier.
My question is: When changing something on your website or when telling a new client do I have to use in place of synthasite.. yola or can I still use synthasite and if I will I can change it into yola?

Please write back to me @:royaldw.weddingandevents@gmail.com

  20. I think Yola is a great name. ‘Synthasite’ got you to 1 million users and I think Yola will make getting the next 10 million even easier.

Keep in mind that your existing customers have loyalty to and are familiar the old brand. Nothing changes for them. This is about the next 10 million…

    Go Yola!

    Mark

  21. I think these guys are from India.I am also from India and I know hindhi very well. I don’t know that jhola means “hatching”. as per my knowledge it means bag to carry some goods.I am not sure.

  22. Whoa , what will happen to our .synthasite domains?
Will they become .yola , or stay .synthasite or will they dissappear?

And will Yola become a Pay-Per build site?

  23. @Austin

Your subdomains will not change or disappear – they will continue to work for as long as you want. See: http://www.synthasite.com/rebranding-faqs.html

Yola will NOT become a Pay-Per build site. Only the name is changing. All the free site building and hosting services that you know and love will remain exactly as they are. If you have any questions or concerns about your site, please drop us a note and we will be happy to answer you.

  24. I must say that the name change that Synthasit has just released is a benefit to us all. As your most vocal, outspoken and active user in our FREE site builders forum with over 81 threads started and 1081 replies helping you (My Syntasite member friends) and our soon to come new (YOLA members) I can say without reservation that this change is not only a positive move by the management of Sythasite but an intelligent one as well. To have your website be misspelled time and time again simply because it has such a long and “YES” difficult to spell sub-domain name can be very costly on your business. In this short paragraph I ask you how many times have I misspelled our for so long welcome benefactors name (SYNTHASITE)? I have spelled it wrong 3 times… How many times has your visitors searched for your name and came up blank and simply moved on to a website that they could remember and spell? How many times have they looked at the word “Synthasite” in your URL and thought to themselves “What does that have to do with dog training, pottery sales, insurance, fine art in my case playhouse building and your line of work or play?”

I look at the inclusion of “YOLA” to be of benefit to us all and those that think to themselves that this is a bad move on the part of the management of Synthasite must realize that for any business “Yours included” it must be both competitive and easy. They surely have got the easy part covered in the simplicity of how we create our websites with their FREE site builder and have now got the easy part in their name. Look at it this way my fellow site building friends… Changing their name was the most challenging thing that they have had to do yet. As you well know they are one of the most widely know and respected FREE site builders on the internet today and they got there because they knew what they were doing and this is one step was necessary to achieve their future goals. I personally have since August gotten my (honeybearplayhomes.synthasite.com) right at the very top of most searches in my field and could never have done so without Synthasite. I am sure that there are countless others that are at the top of theirs as well and those of you out there that will soon be on the top of yours. Once you are at the top of the searches you can see how easy it is by reviewing your analytic management to move up or down one or 10 pages overnight by one simply change. Rest assured that our sites will always remain as they are and I have no fear in that my (honeybearplayhomes.synthasite.com) will always remain as it is.

You need to realize that for Synthasite the name change to YOLA is challenging in that they now have to build up their name brand and recognition all over again. They did the name change because of the many countless emails and forum postings concerning the difficult to spell name and simply DID NOT pull this out of a hat and think to themselves “I am going to fix something that was not broken”. It WAS broken my friends and this change is to many a welcome inclusion to an already great product and company.

I personally with my active forum participation can see thousands and thousand of websites helped by my tutelage and postings of products, tools and tricks to make it easier on web site building for us all. I cannot imagine having helped 1,000,000 others as those at Synthasite have. We all need to think of it from their perspective before we type our responses and thoughts here in the blog because with this name change this proves they were thinking about US…

I for one have already thought of so many ways that this will benefit me both in site building but my wallet as well…

    I ask you these simple questions;

    1) Is it easier to remember a shorter URL?
    2) Does the thought or country of origin behind a name really have any say in why we like or dislike it?
    3) Do you want to show support and appreciation to the ONE business that has shown every single one of us a helping hand in creating our dreams of site building and business ownership?
    4) Are you one of the over 1,000,000 members that have benefited from a FREE website?

If you can answer “YES” then can we all simply show our appreciation and support our beloved host and benefactor… YOLA.COM

Help make this transition an easy one on them as well as each and every one of us and as I always say… Happy site building.

Ed (Mr. Honeypot) honeybearplayhomes.synthasite.com and soon honeybearplayhomes.yola.com also… For me that sound like music.

  25. People are always changing names of their companies for various reasons, be it investors input or other reasons such as it being shorter and supposedly easier to rember, ect. My question is this: Will it in any way affect synthasites page ranking with Google? I have been watching the page rank go up in the last few weeks from 2 to a 6 now.

If it does affect this, is it worth it to start all over again?

Great host and tools. Keep up the great work! You will soon be on top of the world!

    The Unknown Critic

  26. i think its quite fun to say but it is a bit of a weird name
cant you change it to yolasite or something like that??? it still easyer for my friends to remember though.

hope the rest of the system stays the same

  27. Yes…. Great job has been done in your team website.

Please! dont use bad word. Its will reflex your image itself!!!!

    Thanks.

  29. I like the name! It sounds like my polish name Ola. (Yola, Ola) Don’t you think you will miss the name Synthasite I mean really I would never change because everyone is sharing the word and people say Synthasite not {Yola}! Does it still work if you type synthasite.com? I mean change is good but everthing will be different like the homepage and everything! But I do like the name! It is chatchy! Yola Yola Yola! I can make a song ’bout it!

  30. The new name sounds weird, but the meaning behind it suits the site very well ^-^ I absolutely love this site, it’s way better them freewebs. Keep up the good work Admins!!

Also just a thought, Could you guys make it to where the users can upload their own templates to the site? That way there will be more to choose from and would save you guys a lot of time of having to find and post templates up your selves. Also could making Word Press compatible with your system be an option in the future???

    Thank you for your time,

    Keep up the good work!!

    ~K-Kun

  31. Listen, I have to AGREE with the people on here that like the name the way it ALREADY is. Synthasite seems to be the Perfect name just the way it is for THIS site. I have always thought that Synthasite is just a cool name for website builder. I mean ………. YEP……. we can’t do anything about it if you guys are going to go ahead and change the name…… but in my Own opinion I really think that you should just keep it the way it is right now.

So…..If you want to consider keeping it JUST THE WAY it is…. I would be just super pleased.

Ok….well , I have spoken. Glad to at least know about it so that I can at least say my feelings on it. I will really miss the name Synthasite if you DO change it to Yola. I personally don’t like that name, Yola! Synthasite seems to have a cool professional name.

Well….thanks, I would really hate to see my Synthasite disappear into oblivion. Sunshine Ciolkosz
