Website of the Week: Honey Bear Playhomes

When I joined Yola over a year ago I spent some time getting familiar with a lot of the websites from our forum members. Due to their interaction on our forum their websites seem to have an extra layer of polish and professionalism. Our members astound me with their creative use of the website building tools we provide. Even then, Honey Bear Playhomes stood out as a remarkable example of what can be accomplished using Yola. Site owner, Ed Butchas, has recently refreshed his site adding new layers of interactive fun to keep his younger target audience engaged while keeping the site easy to navigate so as not to frustrate the parents of his target audience once they are ready to click “Buy Now.”

You’re probably wondering, “whoa, how’d he do that?” To be honest, it’s beyond me, but Ed isn’t one to keep secrets. “It has always been my goal to try and help my fellow site builders find those resources that I myself in the beginning found challenging to locate and to place those in one place where they can easily be found.” Ed’s comprehensive list of tips and techniques can be found in this thread, and indicate how much of his time and energy have gone both into the creation of his website and the support of other members also developing their business websites.

This website contains oodles of custom code and is not indicative of what most Yola members will create in the Sitebuilder. Chances are, your business website wouldn’t even benefit from all of the bells and whistles of Honey Bear Playhomes, but there are numerous principles in play in this site that can benefit every business in developing a successful website.

The Column Divider widget was used throughout to layer objects on top of other objects. This is an indispensable organizational tool for basic websites right up to advanced sites.

Most importantly, Ed selected a highly searchable, easy to remember custom domain name that clearly indicates the products offered and ties in to the overall design of his website.

We would love to help you select a custom domain name that could likewise guide you in your website design process.

You can save 25% off of your registration fee for a 2 year domain subscription purchase by entering “GDOM25-FEB” into the promo code box during checkout. Alternately you can renew your existing domain registration using “renew15” during checkout.  Head here to choose your domain now!

Just for fun, Ed hid the Yola logo on his homepage. I clicked all over like mad and still didn’t find it! Can you?

  2. Okay I will try to add this one more time as it fails to appear each time…

Had to create a Mr. Honeypot FB profile as I did not yet have one.

FYI… This weekend I plan on adding to my “Honey Bear Playhomes” tips thread a step by step tutorial on how to do imagemaps (images with links attached to many places on the image) which will include a video to help those who want to create a custom menu for their website…

While I did my menu with many different imagemaps which take a good amount of coding knowledge you can accomplish a similar effect on your website using a simple mouseover code that you can find if you search the forums for it. I plan on adding a tutorial for mouseovers soon as well. 😉

Keep your eyes open this for my full imagemap tutorial and video(s) this weekend in the Yola forum…

Glad everybody enjoys my whimsical website designed for interaction with its viewers. It is much appreciated…

  3. I love your website design! and i also got one question:
how did you create a login area/page? i would like to create one for my website too but its not something i like with the yola builder because everyone will access the page with the same username and password that i will choose, so how did you do it?

    Thanks!!!!

P.S You did a really big job at your website. Congrats
