New Release Today!

We’re rolling out a new release today that includes some exciting changes to the Sitebuilder, including more help text, removal of placeholder text from published websites, an email option in the form widget, alignment options in the HTML widget, and, for some of you, a more streamlined widget interaction. Only a few randomly chosen Yola customers will see this part of the release.

For the lucky few who get the widget interaction release, when you add a widget to your page, the border around the widget disappears. This makes your workspace more closely resemble how your website will look when it’s published. To see the border again, place your mouse over the widget and the border will reappear.

The reason only a few of you will see the widget update is because we want to roll it out slowly. This is to make sure we’re headed in the right direction before we make it a more permanent thing. We’ll be taking a look at how it’s being used and listening to your feedback on our forums before releasing it to everyone. If you’re one of few who get this release, please let us know what you think in our forums. If you’re not one of the chosen ones, take heart – you’ll get it soon. It’s nothing personal, we promise.

We’re pretty excited about the changes we made in this release. We think it’s more elegant, easier to use, and will help you create better websites. Which is, of course, our ultimate goal.

  1. I think i got it because when i am going to add a new page, there are more categories to choose from and the Contact Us form has an E-Mail option!I like it!The email option makes it better and the new categories make it eaiser for me to start building a new page!I am having problems though!I can’t upload any files or insert pictures! The button in the File Manager doesnt work and the buttons dont appear for the Upload a file or choose a file page!Do you know why this is happening?

  2. I see no mention of any changes to the way that Preview works, but it appears that was changed also?

I don’t like the way it works now, I much prefer the old way.

It is much less efficient. Before I could Preview quickly across different browsers, now I have to log into Yola, each time, in each browser to Preview a site.

PLEASE change that back to the way it was!

    Thanks.

    1. Hi Donald,

We did make a change to how our “Preview” functions. Instead of having it open in a new window, it now opens up in the same window, and there is a “Close” button that allows you to easily return to the Sitebuilder to carry on editing your site. This change was made after extensive usability testing in which we found that most users expected it to work this way and were surprised and confused when it opened in a new window.

However, if you prefer the old way and would like to view your site preview in a new tab, here is what you can do:

      1. Right click on the “Preview” link.
      2. Select “Open link in new tab.”

I hope this helps. We will pass your feedback on to our Product team who will consider further changes if appropriate, but in the meantime we hope these options will satisfy the most number of users.

  3. LauraT, Opening in a different window does not help at all. My complaint is that preview use to open outside of Yola, no login required. Now it opens inside of yola, login required. If I want to preview in different browsers I have to log in each time. Before the change I could just copy the preview url and open in as many different browsers as I wanted, not having to login each and every time. I much prefer the way it worked before. It was much more efficient then.

    Thanks.

  4. I liked the old preview better too because I could just leave that other browser window open and refresh the page to see changes that I made. I’d really really like to see the ability to copy one site to another site. THAT would be a useful feature. I would have signed up with another service had they provided it, but no one has it so I think it would put Yola out in front.
