Publishing Your Site

There are plenty more things you can do with your site. Feel free to explore all the options. However, this tutorial is going to teach you how to publish your site, so when you are ready, let's proceed to the final step in creating a website.

Step 1: Select a Publishing Option

Click on the yellow "Publish My Site" button. A dialog box will open up and you will be given three (3) options for publishing your site:
  1. Choose Professional: Buy a domain from Yola
  2. Choose Standard: A free subdomain on Yola.com
  3. Use My Domain: Use a domain you already own
For now we are going to use option "2" but the others are available for you to use should you prefer. If you have not purchased your own domain name, or you don't want to do so right now, then option 2 is the one for you! It is fast, easy and free! Click on "Publish my Site":

Decide on a relevant name you would like for your site and click on "Check Availability":
  • You will get a line saying whether the name you have chosen is available.
  • If you are told that the domain is unavailable, this means that another user has already registered it and you need to select a different name.
  • If you can't click on "Check Availability", this means that you have used a character that is not permitted and you need to make the necessary adjustment.
Click on the "Next" button to publish your site.

Step 2: View Your Published Site

That's it! Your site has been published. Click on the link in the dialog to view your published site.

Step 3: Edit Your Publishing Settings

Your publishing settings can be accessed via the down-arrow next to "Update my Site". If you wish to update your site, simply make the desired changes and click "republish" to have your changes added to the published version of your site. If you wish to remove your site from the World Wide Web, click "unpublish".

Congratulations! By now you should have learnt how to:
  1. Create a site
  2. Select a style or template
  3. Add and edit text
  4. Create new pages
  5. Add and edit images
  6. Publish your site
