3 ways to add website keywords and get found online

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a great, low cost way to get found online through search engines. With SEO, comes adding keywords, the words or phrases people search for on Google in order to find a website that matches. Search engines use these to determine which websites to display on the results page. Therefore, choose keywords your audience would use to search for your website. This will help you get found online and make your SEO more effective. Now, let’s add website keywords to your content.

SEO concept

1. Add website keywords where they count
Add keywords to the following key places of your website:

  • Page title tag
  • Meta description
  • Page heading
  • Copy on the page (in particular the first paragraph)

When adding website keywords to your page metadata, be aware of the rules. For example, a Page Title tag should be under 65 characters in length (including spaces) and should lead with your most important keyword. Similarly, the Meta Description should be between 150-170 characters and should also include the most important keyword. Do not to add the same keyword more than once to either of these tags, as search engines could regard this as keyword stuffing.

2. Check your keyword density
When you add website keywords, pay attention to how often they are repeated within your copy. This is known as your keyword density. Generally, it is recommended that your keywords reflect between 2-3% of your copy, which means you can add your keyword 2 to 3 times per 100 words. The most important thing, however, is that your keywords are read naturally by anyone reading your copy.

3. Write for humans, not search engines
Although it’s important to have keywords in place to get found online, this shouldn’t affect the quality of your copy. Your text content should flow naturally, and be helpful and engaging to the reader. Adopt this rule for your metadata as well.

Although it may be tempting to use the same keyword more than once within your Page title tag or Meta description, your should refrain. Instead, focus on writing concise, compelling copy (within the character limit) that contains your key points. This will help you naturally add keywords and will also create attractive copy viewable by visitors on search results.

Keywords are critical to get found online by search engines. We hope this article helped you learn how to add website keywords effectively. Let us know how it goes and ask any questions in the comments.
