Reporting:

The Senior Java Engineer will report to the VP of Engineering.

What you need to be successful in this role:

• 5+ years of real world experience.
• Demonstrated experience in Java Servlets, JSP, Hibernate.
• Ability to define, implement and document language-independent API.
• J2EE Application Server Experience, preferably JBoss or Tomcat.
• Knowledge and application of Java annotations, POJO frameworks and aspects.
• Flexible and willing to work in a fast-changing start-up environment.
• Computer Science or Engineering degree or equivalent work experience.
• Experience with agile development a strong plus.
• JSON and/or RESTFul web services a strong plus.
• Familiarity with OO Analyis and Design
• Ability to debug applications and track down errors using log files and other low level monitoring techniques
• Ability to articulate/communicate ideas/solutions
• Ability to defend/amend ideas and solutions when challenged/scrutinized
• Ability to bring new ideas and solutions to the group
• Ability to estimate solutions given limited requirements
• Timely communication when stuck or missing information
• Knowledge of Data Structures
• Knowledge of OO Analysis and Design Techniques
• Ability to take responsibility for tasks and see them through to completion
• Experience with unit testing
• Relevant Technologies:
• A high level expertise in: Java, PHP, SQL, Hibernate, Linux, Javascript, JSON, REST, J2EE, HTML, CSS, Jsp
• A notable degree of expertise in: MySQl, Flash, NFS, Other web 2.0 technologies

Responsibilities:

• Work as a member of an agile development team using Scrum as an agile development methodology.
• Implementation of Java components, including Hibernate persistence objects and servlets/JSP API implementation.
• Responsibility for a dynamic and agile J2EE implementation serving both JavaScript and PHP clients.
• Mentor other team members.
• Implementation of unit tests.
• Review and critic other team member implementations.
• Definition and maintenance of a maintainable Java component architecture.
• Technical Project Management .
• Continual refactoring of an existing Java code base.
